The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has confiscated 317 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50kg each, concealed in a truck purported to be transporting animal skin.

The discovery was made on Sunday, April 9, by customs officers attached to the federal operations Unit zone A Ikeja Lagos led by OC monitoring Team B Idiroko Axis, DSC Ogundeyi, along Atan-Ota, Idiroko – Expressway.
According to a statement by the service, the goods were neatly concealed to deceive the public that the truck was only carrying animal skin.
But after a thorough search, it was discovered that the MAN diesel truck with registration number: NNE 34G ZG was transporting 317 bags of foreign parboiled rice.
The customs said investigation would reveal where and how the culprits got the animal skin.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it has restricted the exit of rice from Free Trade Zones (FTZs ) in the country to ensure total compliance to the ban on the importation of rice.
Mr Joseph Attah, the Public Relations Officer of NSC told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, that the Service has taken its war against rice smuggling to the FTZs.
Attah said that due to the high level of security along the border lines, some Nigerians were taking advantage of the status of the FTZ to smuggle rice into the country.
