– Tension is presently brewing in Sapele over the death of a politician on Wednesday night
– The politician was said to have been discovered with pump action gun in his Volvo jeep at 9pm in Sapele town
– On interrogation at the police station, he was said to have slumped and rushed to the hospital from where he died
A former candidate of the Delta state house of assembly under the Labour Party in 2011 and Director General of the state Direct Labour Agency, one chief Lucky Ayomanor, has reportedly died while undergoing investigation by the police in Delta on Wednesday night.
Chief Ayomanor, who recently defected from the All Progressive Party (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was said to be driving in his SUV to Gana area of Sapele to see his elder brother at about 9pm, when he was accosted by the police in a stop and search operation and a fully loaded revolver was said to have been found in his car.
While the people of Sapele are crying foul, blaming the police for killing Ayomanor in the police custody, the Delta state police public relations officer, Andrew Ani Amaka, told ZENITHBLOG.com that Ayomanor did not die in the police custody.
Rather he said: “Nobody died in police custody. If the facts must be told he was arrested actually at Gana Sapele, he was with a Volvo jeep, he was stopped and on search it was found on him that he was carrying a loaded pump action gun.

“It became imperative to find out from him if he is licensed to carry a pump action, he was still being questioned at the station when he slumped. Whatever could have been the cause, it is autopsy that will determine the actual cause of his death.
“We must clear the fact that he didn’t die at the police station. He slumped, that was why he was rushed to the hospital, it was at the hospital that he died.
“In a situation like this, the first part of the investigation will require that autopsy be done. It will be conducted by relevant doctors and that is all I can say to you ZENITHBLOG.com.”
However, a relation of the deceased Ayomanor, Michael Okor, disagreed with the police public relations officer.

He said: “That was not true, you know the police like fabricating stories. Chief Ayomanor is a very peace loving man. What would he need a gun for?” He thereafter said: “We will talk after the autopsy.”
Meanwhile, tension is brewing in Sapele as some of his boys have vowed to revenge the death of their leader with a threat to burn down the police station if the autopsy states otherwise.
Reports from Sapele indicate that security has been beefed around the town as security officers are seen patrolling the town.
