Federal government panel interrogates CBN governor over N15 billion recovered loot

– Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele is the latest public official to appear before the recently constituted presidential investigative panel

– The panel headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is investigating suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke

– The panel is expected to round up its work soon

CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele is the latest public official to appear before the recently constituted presidential investigative panel headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The panel is is investigating the suspended SGF, Babachir Lawal and the Director General of the NIA, Ayo Oke.

Lawal is being probed over alleged violation of the law and due process in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North-east.

A Senate ad-hoc committee chaired by Senator Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna) had earlier found him culpable of alleged complicity in a N200m grass-cutting contract to clear invasive plant species in Yobe state.

Oke is being investigated over claims made by the NIA to the $43.4million and other currencies stashed away in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.

ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that the CBN governor appeared before the panel alongside some contractors that handle different projects under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

The panel reportedly questioned the CBN governor on how the sum of $43million, N23million and £27,000 in cash recovered from a house in Ikoyi, Lagos was released to the NIA which has claimed it’s ownership.

Emefiele’s invitation was due to certain information Oke gave to the panel, when he appeared before them last week, he appeared before them last week, ZENITHBLOG.com learnt.

President Muhammadu Buhari had last Wednesday ordered the investigations and suspended the duo pending the outcome of the investigations.

Osinbajo’s panel comprising of the National Security Adviser, Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd) and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mallam Abubakar Malami (SAN) is expected to complete it’s work on Wednesday, May 3.
