BREAKING! Doctors have advised Buhari to take things slowly – Presidency

– The presidency has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has been advised to take things slowly

– Garba Shehu, presidential spokesperson said, the president’s absence at the last Federal Executive Council meeting was a last minute decision

– Shehu called for calm, saying that if there was anything wrong with President Buhari, the cabinet and the general public would have been alerted in advance

The Presidency has revealed that doctors to President Muhammadu Buhari have advised he takes things slowly due to his health.

In a series of tweets today, April 27, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity Garba Shehu said speculations in some section of the media over the president’s health is uncalled for.

He said the absence of President Buhari at the last Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, April 26, was a last minute decision.

Shehu further called for calm, saying that if there was anything wrong with President Buhari, the cabinet and the general public would have been alerted in advance.

As eager as he is to be up and about, the President’s doctors have advised on his taking things slowly as he fully recovers from the long period of treatment in the United Kingdom some weeks ago,” Shehu said.

The presidential spokesperson also noted that the President Buhari had intimated Nigerians of the state of his health upon his return London.

“Full recovery is sometimes a slow process, requiring periods of rest and relaxation, as the Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, intimated in his press briefing after the FEC meeting on Wednesday,” Garba said.

He said: “Despite his absence from the public, Nigerians should be rest assured that President Buhari has not abdicated his role as C-in-C of Nigeria.”

The presidency also said President Buhari receives daily briefings on the activities of government, and confers regularly with the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Garba Shehu said speculations in some section of the media over the president’s health is uncalled for.

“God is the giver of life and health. We are grateful that He has seen our President through the worst period of his convalescence in London. We are thankful that the President has passed a number of benchmarks already.

We pray that God continues to see him through this period of recuperation,” the presidency said.

Meanwhile, a civil society group, Change the Change Coalition on Thursday, April 27, threatened mass protest if the president fails to attend the next FEC meeting.

The group said it would mobilize Nigerians to compel President Buhari to officially transmit power to the vice president.

The CSO said instead of staying away from work, President Buhari should feel free to travel abroad for medical attention if the need be.
