According to Vanguard, the House in plenary mandated the committees on Ethics, Values and National Orientation, Telecommunications to interface with Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC) the Consumer Protection Council and the Multichoice Satellite Television Company to address these concerns and report back within eight weeks for further legislative action.

He said: “This development is causing a financial strain on its subscribers and this practice of increase is almost on a yearly basis as in 2013 the monthly subscription increased by 10-15percent and in 2015 by 10-22percent and just recently another notification of increase was sent.
“DSTV does not have ‘a pay as you go’ plan like most similar communication companies around the world thereby making one’s subscription to end at the end of the month, this is against all known and fair business practices all over the world.”
ZENITHBLOG.com recalls that MultiChoice had on Sunday, April 2, announced that it would make an upward review of its price by five per cent on all its DStv and GOtv packages from May 1, 2017.
As a result of this, Nigerian subscribers on the DStv premium bouquet will pay N14,700 as against N13,980 currently being charged. While GOtv Plus subscribers will have to pay N1,900 instead of the current rate of N1,800.
The company says the increment in subscription rates will also affect other bouquets, as Compact Plus DStv subscribers will pay N9,900 instead of the current N9,420, while Compact subscribers will no longer pay N6,000 but N6,300.
