– The government had reportedly warned the traders to vacate the market
– But the government didn’t provide alternative before the activity was carried out
Governor Nyesom Wike’s government under the ministry of Urban development on Tuesday April 11 allegedly confiscated goods from market men and women and burnt down other valuables at the Mile One market in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state capital.
ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that the burning was coming after about two weeks of warning from the state government, asking roadside traders, artisans and roadside automobile engineers to leave the streets of the city.

According to the state government, the city has lost its glory and therefore needs to be restored, however no alternative was put in place for these traders.
Mile One market allegedly burnt down by Rivers sate government
At the scene where these goods were destroyed, a team from the state Ministry of Urban development and armed police men were seen and they stopped pressmen from covering what was happening there.

A camera man from one of the media houses in Port Harcourt was arrested and his camera and phone confiscated by the police while trying to cover the incident even after presenting is Identity Card and obtaining permission to record the incident from one of the officials from the Ministry.
