– Bayelsa students on scholarship in USA are facing some problems with tuition
– About 21 of the students are in danger of being expelled over inability to pay their tuition
– The estimated outstanding fees stood at about $970,000.00 dollars (about N300 million)
– Some of the students have therefore appealed to the state government to assist them
Twenty-one students from Bayelsa state who are currently on scholarship at the Lincoln University Pennsylvania, USA, have appealed to the state government to save their education.
The undergraduates, who are in their final semester at the tertiary institution are in danger of being expelled at this critical moment if the government does not assist them, by paying their tuition.
According to Vanguard, Akpos Akins, one of the troubled students, in a conversation with journalists on Tuesday, April 11, in Pennsylvania, USA, said that the school authorities estimated the outstanding fees stood at about $970,000 dollars which is about N300 million.

Akins said that they had only paid for their first session since they started at the institution and that subsequent payment had not been made.
He explained that the university would not collect any payment made by students or their parents as the management because it would according to them run contrary to the agreement signed with the Bayelsa state government.
The student therefore appealed to Governor Seriake Dickson to help secure their future by directing immediate release of funds for the payment.

Akins also said: “We appeared to have become a source of burden to the management. We are very worried and disturbed.
“We have been given three weeks to pay up before the school’s management takes action. And without our Transcript, we cannot proceed with Industrial Training known as OPT or go to graduate school.
“The management is then obligated to report us for deportation seeing we have no further business in the country.
“Our time and efforts would have been wasted if that happened. We want to be seen as worthy ambassadors of Bayelsa state. We are going through psychological trauma now; we cannot even focus on our studies.”
Meanwhile, on December 17, 2016, ZENITHBLOG.com reported that Bayelsa state students studying at King’s University College, Accra, Ghana, were prevented from writing their examinations and denied access to their hostels.
This was due to the Bayelsa state government’s inability to pay the tuition and all other sundry fees of the students.

The students were all sponsored by the government to study in the school. The government had on November 24, 2016, indicated that Governor Seriake Dickson released £300,000 and $450,000 for the payment of tuition for students of the state on scholarship abroad.
However, the Commissioner for Education, Mr Markson Fefegha, had said Governor Dickson released £300,000 and $450,000 for the payment of tuition for students of the state on scholarship abroad.
