Five persons were killed at the Abaji Market in Katsina Ala local government area of Benue state on Thursday, April 13.

According to The Punch, some gunmen stormed the market and shot at several persons, with dozens sustaining life-threatening injuries in the violent attack.

The attack is coming three weeks after some gunmen invaded Zaki Biam community in Ukum local government area of the state where about 52 persons were killed.

It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the market in a Toyota car, got down from the car and opened fire on the people.

An eyewitness also said some unidentified persons had on Wednesday, April 12 set several houses in the community ablaze and took to their heels.

“Some unidentified persons had, on the eve of the market day (Wednesday), sneaked into our village, set some houses ablaze and ran away, leaving many inhabitants in shock,” the eye witness said.

Fulani herdsmen has been fingered in most attacks in Benue state

Meanwhile, persons suspected to be herdsmen attacked two villages in Kwande local government area, killing two people on Sunday, April 2. One of those killed is a 65-year-old farmer.

In a related development, the Benue state commissioner of police, Bashir Makama has disclosed that his command has recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the house of a suspected kingpin in the state.

Makama says 20 suspects arrested in connection with killings in parts of Benue state will be transferred to Abuja for interrogation.

The commissioner attributed the clashes between herdsmen and farmers to cattle theft by some community members.
