Prominent Yoruba leaders have joined the call on the federal government to begin the process of implementing the report of the 2014 national conference, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) had refused to participate in the confab as an opposition party.
The party, now ruling, also said it would not implement the report. But with the current tension across the country, the government is now under pressure to look at the report again.
The Yoruba leaders warned against mistakes that could plunge the country into chaos
At a retreat organised by Yoruba Leadership and Peace Initiative on Thursday, June 29 in Ibadan, the Yoruba leaders emphasised the unity of the south-west.
They also said Nigeriawas overdue for restructuring.

The leaders reportedly called on the government and the National Assembly to ensure that the process of reviewing the constitution takes place before the 2019 general elections.
One of the leaders, Bode George, a former deputy national chairman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reportedly warned that the mistakes of the past should not be repeated as this could truncate the unity of the Yoruba race.
He also called for a review of the thoughts of late Obafemi Awolowo in administering the south-west.
He said: “I have read Awolowo’s methodology in education, health, politics and others; if it utilised by any governor in the region, it will help in managing the states.”
On his part, former governor of Ogun state, Gbenga Daniel, described the report of the 2014 confab as a good document and urged the federal government to begin the process of restructuring the country.
Deji Osinbogun, who convened the retreat, said Nigerians must come together to agree on the modalities for restructuring the polity.
“This prompted the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan to convene another national conference in 2014.
“The 2014 dialogue was acknowledged to have made far reaching decisions on the required constitutional reforms that would lead to restructuring.

“The conference addressed major issues of concern such as devolution of power, autonomy, resource control and fiscal federalism, among others.
“Participants from all over the country unanimously agreed to the final report of the conference, which was submitted to the Federal Government by Justice Kutigi
“Today, there is no doubt that there is a national consensus that Nigeria is overdue for restructuring.
“This cannot be pushed aside or dumped in the ashes of history” Mr. Osinbogun submitted.
Meanwhile, the Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo has warned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to stop arrogating to itself the supreme leadership of Igbo land.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the president-general of the organisation, John Nwodo, issued the warning in Awka on Thursday, June 29 while addressing members of the Anambra House of Assembly.
