In October 2012 a misfortune happened with Mr. Suntai. He was involved in a plane crash. Danbaba Suntai flew a light-engine aircraft and which crashed near Yola Airport, in Adamawa State. The governor survived. But he needed constant therapy because of injuries he sustained, which included injury to the brain. He has been receiving treatment at the best hospitals around the world.
Firstly, he was admitted at the National Hospital in Abuja. Later Danbaba Suntai was transferred to a German clinic. After some time, the victim of the air crash was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital in the State of Maryland, US. He also underwent restorative therapy at the rehabilitation center for trauma patients of Staten Island in New York.
The governor did not resign from his position as governor. It was assumed that Danbaba Suntai, after the necessary treatment, would return to his duties in Nigeria.

In August of 2013, after ten months of rehabilitation, Mr. Suntai came back to Nigeria. His supporters believed that Danbaba Suntai was ready to take up his official duties. It turned out that the health problems did not allow him to deal with his official affairs successfully.
