Amidst secessionist moves by groups in Nigeria, a civil society organization has come out hard on the agitators, insisting that Nigeria’s unity is not negotiable just as it called on all Nigerians to desist from hate speeches that are capable of throwing the nation into anarchy, chaos and civil unrest.
This is even as environmental rights activist, Annkio Briggs, said that it is too late to restructure the nation, maintaining that what is needed now is separation as time for restructuring had gone.
Annkio Briggs, who faulted the Nigerian constitution, said restructuring Nigeria would be a waste of time but what is needed now was separation and allow all groups go their separate ways and develop at their pace.
Biafran agitators calling for secession from Nigeria
Coordinator of Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), Comrade Sheriff Mulade, told ZENITHBLOG.com that the Nigerian government needed to fashion out strategies for co-existence and unity among Nigerians and de-emphasise calls for separation.

Speaking on behalf of civil society groups in the Niger Delta, Mulade appealed to all Nigerians irrespective of religion, ethnic or political differences to eschew violence and hate speeches that could divide the country but rather imbibe values that bring unity and oneness.
He said: “Nigeria’s unity is not negotiable and we should desist from hate speeches that are capable of throwing Nigeria into anarchy, chaos and civil war.”
On the unity of Nigeria, Mulade stressed: “Never again must we fight a needless war. We have come a long way. We must sustain the unity of the country as we cannot afford a break up.
“Nigerians should shun hate speeches. When we speak, it should be for the unity of the country and not for division. We should promote the peaceful co-existence in the country.
We must make the founding fathers of our country to be proud by preaching togetherness. All Nigerians should join hands together to build bridge of unity across Nigeria.”

Mulade further said: “Let us know that we do not have another country to call our own and it is for the best interest of the nation and the people for us all to live together as one.
“To live together as one big family is sacrosanct and will result in sustainable development of our nation.”
Comrade Mulade advised Nigerians to do away with those things that tend to tearing the nation apart, adding that the issue of quit notice should be abandoned as all Nigerians are equal stakeholders in the Nigeria project.
