– Ezike said bus driver Nkemjika was also arrested for using his bus to abduct people

Police in Imo say they have arrested a teenage girl named Chidinma Nwoke who allegedly took part in kidnapping and robbery in the southeast state, The Punch reports.

According to the police, 19-year-old Nwoke was arrested alongside members of her gang.

A 40-year-old man Samuel Nkemjika who works as bus driver with a transport company Peace Mass Transport Company was also apprehended for kidnapping.

Confirming the arrests, Imo state commissioner of police Chris Ezike said Nwoke was nabbed by the operatives of the command together with two male members of her gang.

He added that Nwoke’s gang was notorious for robbing motorcyclists and traders at gun point.

He said that the two motorcycles which the gang used in robbing their victims, one locally made shot gun with three live cartridges were recovered as exhibits from the gang.

The teenage robber said she got N45,000 from her gang in five operations.

On his own part, Njemika used his bus in abducting his victims.

He was arrested in Onitsha, Anambra State and has confessed to the crime.

He said he got N200,000 from the N2m ransom made from his gang’s kidnap operations.

Ezike said the recent major reshuffle he made at the command was responsible for the arrest of Nwoke, Nkemjika and others.

Meanwhile, ZENITHBLOG.com had also reported that Police in Enugu state arrested three secondary school students for allegedly faking kidnapping and demanding a ransom of N550,000.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement on Friday in Enugu that the students carried out their act in Enugu metropolis.

He said that the police through its Anti-Kidnapping Unit had begun investigation to unravel the circumstances behind the alleged faking of the kidnap incident.
