It is very common among people to yearn to read the biography of notable people. Some people do it because of pure curiosity. Others simply want to find the answer to the question “How to be successful?” One of the best examples of a successful Nigerian is Deinde Fernandez.
Biography of Deinde Fernandez
He was known to be one of the richest men in Africa. But how had he lived before becoming a Nigerian Business magnate?
We don’t know much about Oluwo Antonio Deinde Fernandez biography, but even the small amount of information that we do know is quite interesting. The reason why we don’t know a lot is that Deinde wasn’t a fan of sharing information with people.
Let’s start with some main facts. Deinde was born in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1936. There is not much to say about his family except that they originated from Brazil. It is also known that the first modern-styled buildings of Lagos were built by the Fernandez family.
Deinde spent most of his youth in Lagos. He attended C.M.S. Grammar School and The Holy Cross School. When it was time to get a secondary education, he attended St. Gregory’s College. However, he did not spend much time there – he left after the second year and went to the United States in June 1954.
At that time he was barely 18. Can you imagine that two years later he would get his first million? His first order was bauxite ore for some client in America. After gaining his money, he decided to start his own deal.
Adult life of Deinde Fernandez
From here, there is not a lot of information about Deinde until 1982. He became an advisor to the Angolan Government on Economic interest. But during his diplomatic career, he was still thinking about starting his own business.
Two years later, he became a Deputy Permanent Representative of Mozambique to the United Nations. He was also a representative of Central African Republic.
Starting from 1992 he served as Special Adviser to the President of Mozambique. His main field was International Economic Matters, and he was at that position for three years.
In 1996 he ran an oil company called Petro Inett. The company was in cooperation with the South African-based Energy Africa Limited. They both were involved in a deal with the state oil company. There were some issues with the exploration rights in an area of Angola’s coast. Also, in 1996 he became a Consul of the Republic of Dahomey.

The famous Diplomat and business magnate does not like to talk about his personal life. But we know that he was married three times. His first wife was Princess Abiola Dosunmu. However, their marriage did not last very long. They got divorced. The process wasn’t as peaceful as it could be – Deinde went to the court because there were certain issues with Abiola. The problem was that she didn’t want to stop using his last name. Eventually, Deinde won the court case.
His next marriage was with Aduke Fernandez. The outcome was the same – they divorced. And there was a new issue with his former wife – she asked the court to compel Deinde to pay her £5 million! Can you imagine that? And that was not all – she also asked him to pay her a monthly allowance of £75,000. He had to pay it for three years. But also, this case was eventually dismissed.
The last wife of this famous man was the Princess of Kano, Halima Mauda. They lived together until his unfortunate death. He had three beautiful daughters – Teju Phillips, Abimola Fernandez, and Anoinette Oyinkansola Fernandez.
Deinde Fernandez was also believed to be a friend of the Angolan president, Jose Eduardo dos Santos. We wonder, what did they do in their spare time? Perhaps they played golf or went for a trip on Deinde’s yacht.
Deinde Fernandez and his rich life
During his long life, Deinde had a fair amount of properties all over the world. He had a castle in France, which was once the home of Napoleon Bonaparte. He also owned a huge mansion. It is situated on a peninsula, near New York. The mansion is just gorgeous. However, it is nearly impossible to see it (if you don’t have a drone, of course). The mansion is surrounded by a high fence; the security is at its highest level – even Deinde’s car had to be double checked before going through the gates.
Deinde was also in love with expensive transport. He had a gorgeous yacht that you can still see in the waters of the French Rivera. He had six jets and a lot of expensive cars. However, we don’t know exactly how many cars he had. Some of his servants said that he kept his cars in a closed garage and had a personal car for every day. Just imagine how much money he had!
In 2010 he decided to sell one of his properties. It was a gorgeous white mansion with a breathtaking view, eight bedrooms and nine baths. It looked very luxurious! Deinde decided to sell it for $12 million, which was quite cheap (the price was going to be a shocking $18 million) in regards to the market. Besides the beautiful mansion, the new owner could get almost three acres of land.
The death of Deinde Fernandez
The famous Nigerian man, who held a wide variety of chieftaincy titles (including Apesin Ola of the Egban clan), died on the 1st September 2015. At that time he was 78 and lived in Belgium. We passed away due to an undisclosed illness. He is buried in Brussels, at Ixelles Cemetery.
Biography of Deinde Fernandez looks like a story of a man who quickly gained success. However, we don’t know for sure about the issues and problems that he faced during his path to success. He was a man who didn’t like to talk about his past or share anything about his present. Deinde didn’t hide anything – you could observe the way he is living, but you would never know what he was thinking.
Deinde was born to parents that were not very rich. He gained everything by himself, and he is the man that we should look up too. Yes, he made some mistakes in the past. But who didn’t? The important things here are the way he went for his goals, his dedication and hard work. It is something that we should keep in mind.
Maybe he will be an example for those who struggle in life and don’t believe in themselves. You can do anything you want as long as you believe that it is possible to become successful and you put in enough effort to achieve it. We hope that you will get inspired from the fascinating story of one man’s life.
