Osinbajo makes another crucial appointment in Buhari's absence

A report by Thisday indicates that the federal government has appointed Ms Patience Oniha as the new Director-General, Debt Management Office (DMO) following the retirement of Dr. Abraham Nwankwo on Friday, June 30.

Dr Nwankwo from Imo state, served as the DMO’s DG for ten years (two terms of five years each).

The report stated that Osinbajo approved Oniha’s appointment, which was announced by the minister of finance Mrs Kemi Adeosun in Abuja.

Edo-state born Oniha is an highly experienced banker and chartered accountant,with over 30 years experience in Nigeria’s financial sector.

She has previously worked with Ecobank Nigeria, Standard Chartered Bank, KPMG, among others.

The handover formalities between her and Nwankwo took place in a brief ceremony at the DMO headquarters in Abuja yesterday, a statement from the ministry of finance said.

Before now, Oniha served as the head of the efficiency unit of the ministry of finance, where she alongside Adeosun implemented policies that ensured the end of financial misappropriation in the ministry.

The statement from the ministry described Oniha as part of the success story the DMO recorded in the past 10 years.

“During that period, DMO scored a number of firsts in its operational efforts to manage the country’s debt profile.

“These include the establishment of 37 sub-national Debt Management Departments for the 36 states and the FCT, culminating in the construction of the first-ever comprehensive and reliable Domestic Debt Database for all the states and the FCT in 2012,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Adamawa state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has nominated one Comrade Mustapha Salihu as replacement for former SGF, Babachir David Lawal.

According to recent media reports, the party sent the name of its nominee to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in Abuja.

The letter was said to have been co-signed by the governor of Adamawa state, Bindow Jibrilla, the state chairman of the party, Ibrahim Bilal, and the APC secretary in the state, Sa’idu Naira.
