1. Visit one of the Western Union agents closest to you
2. Fill the required form and state all necessary information including:

– The location (city) where the money will be picked up by the receiver
3. Present a valid means of identification – this has to be one of the approved government issued forms of identification, which includes:
– International passport
– Driver’s license
– National ID cards
– Voters card
4. Pay the amount you are transferring plus a fee for your transaction to the receiving agent
5. Receive a receipt for your transaction along with a Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) which the receiver will be required to provide when picking up the transfer.
The MTCN can be used to keep track of your transfer and should be shared with only the person who you are making the transfer to; the receiver will be required to present this secret number along with some other necessary information when they go to receive the transfer at their own end.

How to receive money via Western Union in Nigeria
1. Receiver has to visit an agent in the city originally selected by the sender.
2. Fill the required form and state all necessary information including:
– Name of sender
– Where the money was sent from
– The security test question and answer chosen by the sender
– The Money Transfer Control Number issued to the sender
3. Present a valid form of identification – school ID cards are not acceptable when trying to receive money via Western Union. Just like in the case of sending money via Western Union, the only acceptable means of identification are government issued ones:
– International passport
– Driver’s license
– National ID card
– Voters card
Other non-government issued forms of identifications like school ID card, office ID card or health insurance cards are not acceptable for this purpose as stipulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
4. Receive the money and sign the necessary documents after all information have been verified.
