The demolition began with a petrol station built by one Alhaji Suleman Akinbami, the secretary of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) at Adebayo area of Ado Ekiti, Vanguard reports.

But the demolition was opposed by Muslims under the aegis of National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), who described the government action as an attempt to oppress them.

They said the mosque was built by a petrol dealer, within the premises of his petrol station in Adebayo and donated to the Muslim community.

However, ZENITHBLOG.com learnt that the commissioner for Lands, Mr Taiye Otitoju, dismissed the insinuation that the demolition was targeted at any person or religious organisation,

The commissioner said the government action was intended to save lives, noting that it was wrong for anybody to get approval to build a petrol

station and later build a religious centre inside it.

He said the demolition would also affect churches too if found at such locations.

“Government took the decision because of the fire outbreak at a petrol filling station in Ado-Ekiti and we want to ensure that few people converge at or around petrol stations.

“We have to notify the people affected and we have done that. It is also noteworthy that these people applied for the construction of petrol filling stations and building a place of worship there may not be necessary,” he said.

In other news, ZENITHBLOG.com reports that Lere Olayinka, the special assistant to governor of Ekiti state on Public Communications and New Media, has said that the minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi is not like Ayodele Fayose who struggled on his own to become Ekiti state governor twice.

According to Olayinka, Fayemi is ‘a man who was pushed and manipulated to the top.

He also went further taking a swipe at the Action Congress (AC) and All Progressive Congress (APC).
