The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and regional bodies, including the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Northern Elders Forum (NEF) have added their voices to the calls for the Federal Government to name owners of the huge sums of money discovered at Ikoyi, Kaduna airport and other parts of the country.

The PDP said the entire episode in Ikoyi, Lagos portrayed the government’s posturing on the corruption war as a sham, just as the OPC noted that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration was taking Nigerians for granted.
Although the anti-graft agency seems to have upped the tempo of its campaign to rid the nation of corruption, the calls by these groups show that it needs to do more for its activities to be considered credible.

Citing double standards, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi has rejected the three-man investigative panel constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ayo Oke, adding that both men should have been arrested by the law enforcement agencies.
Lawal and Oke were suspended by the president on Wednesday for the alleged mismanagement of the funds meant for humanitarian aid in the North-east and the discovery of N13.3 billion in an apartment in Ikoyi by the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC), respectively.
The president also set up a panel to be headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, with the National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno, and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), as members to investigate both men.

Barely 24 hours after its constitution, the Presidential Investigative Committee on alleged infractions by two senior government officials got cracking yesterday.
The committee, headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, is probing suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal and National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Director-General Ayo Oke.
Lawal is alleged to have awarded a N200million contract to a company, Global Vision Limited, linked with him by the Presidential Initiative for the North East (PINE) for the clearing of “invasive plant species” (weeds) in Yobe State.
Oke is being investigated over the $43.4million “covert operations” cash, which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) found in an apartment in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Contrary to the popular thinking that the NIA hid the $43.4million away from President Muhammadu Buhari, sources in the agency said yesterday that a brief was submitted to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) detailing the cash at hand as part of a comprehensive report for the President. But it was not clear last night whether the President actually got the report.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday met with the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu and other security chiefs in the wake of public interest in investigations into the circumstances that led to the N13 billion cash haul in a National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Lagos safe house.
The meeting came as the Senate also yesterday delved into the rumpus over the Osborne cash haul, bidding to summon Mr. Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to furnish more information on circumstances around discovery of the money. The Senate announced yesterday that it would next week through its Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes invite Magu to shed more light on the matter.
