The peace meeting convened by former President Goodluck Jonathan to end the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party ended in disarray in Abuja on Thursday.

The disagreement among the key actors in the party crisis also forced the National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, to walk out of the meeting.

The Guardian joins in with the headline: “Modu Sheriff storms out of Jonathan’s truce meeting”.

In protest against not being allowed to address the opening session as the court-recognised National Chairman of the crisis-ridden Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff yesterday walked out of a meeting called in Abuja by former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The session was convoked to find a lasting solution to the leadership crisis confronting the party which has seen it factionalised between Sheriff and Senator Ahmed Makarfi. But with the way it ended, there is no hope yet of an early and peaceful resolution of the crisis of the PDP which is the main opposition party in the country.

The parley had barely begun when crisis erupted following Sheriff’s insistence to be recognised and allowed to speak at the opening session in his capacity as the Court of Appeal Court-validated national chair of the party.

The Nation follows in a similar vein with the headline: “PDP crisis: Sheriff walks out on Jonathan, governors”.

Visibly agitated Sheriff was more piqued by Jonathan’s refusal to allow him address the meeting in his capacity as the National Chairman.

According to him, the meeting was at variance with the recommendations made by a reconciliation committee headed by Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson.

Speaking with reporters shortly after he quit the meeting with his team, Sheriff said he would not be party to any arrangement that seemed to deviate from the recommendation of the Dickson committee.

His words: “We were here for PDP stakeholders meeting and the PDP has only one national chairman, which is Ali Modu-Sheriff. There is no PDP meeting that will take place under whatever arrangement that I will not open the session as national chairman. Today, I am the most senior member of this party.”

Taking on a different topic, Vanguard bears the headline: “Court confiscates ex-Naval chief’s, Ezeoba’s N1.825b”

Tmoney, which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, said was diverted by Ezeoba from the coffers of the Nigerian Navy, had been found in the bank account of a company, Acquila Leasing Limited.
