Muslim births set to overtake Christian births worldwide within 20 years

– Muslim births will likely overtake Christian births within two decades

– Islam will therefore likely to overtake Christianity as the world’s largest religion by the end of the century

– Between 2010-15, Muslim population grew by over 150 million

The number of Muslim babies born into the world will surpass the number of Christian babies within the next 20 years, according to research by the Pew Research Center.

Research indicates that Islam will be the world’s largest religion by the end of the century

The Center also indicates that Islam, already the world’s fastest growing religion, will likely overtake Christianity as the world’s largest religion by the end of this century.

The research shows that between 2010 and 2015, the global Muslim population grew by 150 million people to its 2015 figure of 1.8 billion people. In 2015, the global Christian population numbered 2.3 billion people.

Muslim births set to grow at a faster rate compared to Christian births

The global Muslim population is predicted to grow by 70 percent between 2015 and 2060, with the Christian population set to

grow by only 34 percent in the same period. By 2060, the global populations of the two religions will likely be equal.

Furthermore, while Christian births accounted for 33 percent of global births in recent years, they also accounted for 37 per cent of global deaths, significantly more than other religions.

The report indicates that the heart of Christianity is moving from Europe to Africa

The Center’s lead researcher, Conrad Hackett, says that Christianity is declining at a much faster rate in Europe than anywhere else in the world.

He adds: “The heart of Christianity is moving from Europe to Africa.” Factors attributed to this include conversions from Christianity to Islam as well as increased immigration of Muslims into Europe and the US/Canada.
