Mike Ozekhome faults Buhari's fight against corruption, says Nigerians still very poor despite cash recoveries

– A senior advocate of Nigeria Mike Ozekhome has faulted the approach of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration in the fight against corruption in the country

– Ozekhome said the present administration lacks transparency and openness towards the ordinary Nigerians

– The senior lawyer said efforts must be made to ensure that the approach used does downgrade the country

A senior advocate of Nigeria Mike Ozekhome has faulted the approach of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration in the fight against corruption in the country.

Ozekhome while speaking at the Sunrise Daily show by Channels Television said the present administration lacks transparency and openness towards the ordinary Nigerians.

“I am one of those who believe that some of these recoveries are simulated propaganda,” Ozekhome said.

“Where is the openness, the transparency as to how these monies are being used for the common man and woman. All the monies that we have been hearing that is being recovered in the last 2 years, where is the money, why are we so poor?” He asked.

“All these cash that we have been recovering for months, where is it kept?

“I am against corruption, I do not believe in it because it downgrades a country’s existentialism

All the headlines in the last 2 years is just about corruption, in fighting corruption, you must do it strategically in such a way that you do not hurt the image of your country,” he added.

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered huge sum of money from different locations in Nigeria.

The monies recovered from – airport, building in Kaduna slum and recently in an apartment in Osborne, Ikoyi in Lagos state are running into million.

The latest recovery is the $43.4m, £27,800 and N23.2m recovered by the anti-graft agency last week. The owner of the money and the building were the money was found is yet to be officially identified.
