The pro-Biafra group in a statement on Monday, April 17, by its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, stated that it was worried that some of its members had been detained in secret cells without traces, Tribune reports.
The group described as worrisome, the “illegal detention of Bright Chimezie Ishinwa in DSS secret cell without traces, those in Igweocha (Port Harcourt) prisons and those in the state CID headquarters Igweocha languishing”.
IPOB calls for the release of its members in detention.
Mr Powerful called on the Nigerian government and security agencies to either release IPOB members on bail or charge them to court without further delay if they are still alive in custody.
The group said: “The Federal High court sitting in Abuja on February 6, 2017 declared IPOB as a legal organisation, but the Nigerian Police and other security agencies who do not know the law are busy breaking the law by continuing targeting the peaceful members of IPOB.”
It alleged that on April 15, 2017, the DPO of Umuebulu police station (Superintendent of Police) SP Mary Iheanacho, ordered the kidnap of IPOB members who were doing ‘evangelism’ for the restoration of Biafra in Umuebulu 1
“The peaceful evangelism of IPOB family members were held on April 2, 2017 and there was no arrest or kidnap until April 15, 2017, the DPO ordered for the kidnap of the IPOB members in the community.”

“The IPOB members in the community searched for the members who were kidnapped and could only locate one Mr Victor Ogiebe under the custody of SP Iheanacho while others were not seen since five days now,” the group said.
IPOB implored the international community, the European Union (EU), African Union (AU), all the relevant Human Rights Organisations to prevail upon the Nigeria government and its security agencies to stop harassing, intimidating IPOB members.
It also asked the international community to seek the release of its members who have been detained illegally in different prisons and secret cells across the country.
Meanwhile, the pro-Biafra group has said that will honour all those killed in Asaba during the war on Tuesday, May 30.
ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that the group called on all its members to observe a two-minute silence for these people at exactly 12 noon the slated date.
A statement by the IPOB’s media and publicity secretary Powerful Emma said the two minute silence is to pay tribute to the deceased for the ultimate sacrifice made towards to freedom of Biafra.
