– If Babachir is found guilty and removed from the job, the SGF position could be given to southeast
– Babagana Kingibe and Ahmed Lawan are top contenders for the job in Northeast should President Buhari choose to still give the back to the region
– Southeast top contenders are Chris Ngige and Ogbonnaya Onu who are presently ministers in Buhari’s cabinet
– The southeast argue that they should get the position in order to give the region a greater sense of belonging in the Buhari administration after complaints of lopsided appointments
There is presently a hot battle for the job of David Babachir Lawal, the suspended secretary to the government of the federation.
The Punch reports that leading members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the South-East have begun a race for the top job.

It reports further that President Muhamamdu Buhari was unlikely to give the position back to the Northeast if Babachir is found guilty by the Osinbajo-led committee and removed from the position.
Babachir might not return to the position from which he was suspended by President Buhari
A former SGF Babagana Kingibe and Senate Majority Leader Ahmed Lawan were named as some of the top contenders for the job should the president decide to let the job remain in the zone.
The report quotes a high ranking member of the APC who spoke on grounds of anonymity as saying: “I am not a soothsayer but I do know that the President has strong ties to the North -East politically.
“The North -East as a political entity has remained loyal; Buhari appreciates and rewards loyalty. Besides, he is committed to rebuilding the area after the Boko Haram crisis. In any case, who says he cannot choose to give it to Adams Oshiomhole (ex-Edo State governor)?

But APC members from the Southeast feel that if President Buhari gives them the position, it would give the region a greater sense of belonging in the administration after huge complaints of lopsided appointments.
Those they are considering for the job from the region are minister of labour and employment Chris Ngige and science and technology minister Ogbonnaya Onu.
“I don’t want to pre-empt the Osinbajo committee
“For now, the position has not been declared vacant. However, whenever it becomes vacant, the South- East like every other part of this great country deserves a shot at it.
“We have competent men and women who can take up the challenge when given the opportunity. Should Mr. President deem it fit to appoint someone from the South-East, it will go a long way in dispelling the baseless rumour that he hates the zone and is punishing us for not voting for him massively like other zones did in 2015,” a party chieftain in the APC from the southeast said.
Meanwhile, ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that a tweet believed to have emerged from the son of suspended Babachir has generated a lot of controversies online.
The son of the the suspended SGF in the tweet alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari has a Northern and Islamic agenda in his administration.
The tweet, which has got social media talking comes after the same man simply identified as Suleiman, said President Buhari will be brought back in 2019 and his dad, Babachirl Lawal will still be his SGF until 2023.
