EFCC told to kill ALL treasury looters

Daily Sun reports that a poll conducted by anti-corruption agency Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), shows that Nigerians support the death penalty for public officials found guilty of looting the nation’s treasury.

Ibrahim Magu’s anti-corruption agency says its research shows that Nigerians want treasury looters to be killed.

According to the report, the poll was part of the agency’s sensitisation of the public towards embracing drastic measures in fighting corruption in Nigeria.

EFCC said majority of Nigerians that participated in the recent poll which was conducted through the agency’s Twitter handle and was published in the March edition of its monthly magazine titled EFCC ALERT, approved capital punishment for looters of public funds.

About 4,584 participants participated in the poll that opened on February 28, 2017, responding to the question: “What penalties do you think looters of public funds deserve?”

Participants had three options to choose from. They were long prison terms, final forfeiture of loot, and death sentence.

Final result showed that 49 per cent voted for death sentence as a

penalty, while 32 per cent for long prison terms, and 19 per cent for final forfeiture of loot stolen.

The commission noted that while the poll may not impact on the judicial system, “but what is not in doubt is that Nigerians hold strong belief that every measure should be considered in fight against corruption, including the death sentence.”

Meanwhile, ZENITHBLOG.com gathered Nigerian Senate president Bukola Saraki and a host of other senators have been dragged before the court over the screening of acting Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman Ibrahim Magu on Wednesday, March 15.

The plaintiff wants the court to declare Bukola Saraki and 10 Senators who are presently being investigated by EFCC as not having the moral right to have participated in the screening of Magu because of conflict of interest.
