A clash allegedly caused by some youths suspected to be members of Federation of Igbara-odo Students Union in Ekiti state has led to the death of two people with Governor Ayodele Fayose declaring curfew in the affected area.
The Punch quotes a witness as revealing that the violence started when the students started distributing some pamphlets inciting the people of the town to probe the monarch, Oba Edward Jaiyeola concerning how the fund raised in the last anniversary celebration of the town was spent.

The students also claimed that they wanted four of their members to be included in the monarch’s council of chiefs and that a new generation bank, which was about to vacate the town, be asked to stay.

Apart from this, the students also want a police college speculated to be coming to the town.
As the students distributed the pamphlets, they marched to the palace of the monarch and vandalized it.

The report said as the mayhem grew, a leader of the protesting youths was killed while a yet-to-be-indentified policeman, was also killed by the protesters and his rifle taken away.

It was learnt that Governor Fayose, who stormed the area around 6 pm in company with the state commissioner of police, Mr Ibrahim Chafe, and other security operatives, immediately met with leaders and residents of the town.
While promising to get to the root of the crisis, the governor promised that the perpetrators would be prosecuted. He also declared a seven-day curfew from 7am to 6pm daily on the community.
“This is a very bad development. It is a big shame on the community. I am assuring you that we will get to the root of this matter and ensure that perpetrators are dealt with,” he reportedly said.
