For Justice Adeniyi Ademola who was freed with his wife by a Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, April 5, fresh troubles may have just begun as the federal government has appealed the judgement and even filed new charges.

Vanguard reports that the federal government, on Thursday, April 6, appealed the judgement of the high court presided over by Justice Jude Okeke in favour of Adeniyi, his wife, Mrs Olabowale, and a senior lawyer, Joe Agi.

Apart from the appeal, the government, through the federal ministry of Justice, has filed a fresh case at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) against Justice Ademola and his wife for allegedly living above their income.

The report quoted a source as saying the presidency was not happy with the judgement of the high court and that it considers the development strange considering the underlying facts of the case.
“It is even more strange that the trial was not allowed to continue considering the applicable statutory provisions.
“Section 53(1) of the ICPC Act raises a presumption that any gratification accepted or obtained by an accused person must have been corruptly accepted or obtained until the contrary is proved. Section 60 of the Act does not apply to the case,” the source said.

ZENITHBLOG.com recalls that Justice Okeke ruled that the case in the 18-count charge against the trio of Ademola, his wife and Agi was based merely on suspicion and speculation rather than real evidences.
