He said: “Last night at about 10pm, a group of unknown gun men attacked students who were preparing for today April 11 exams in the CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria) hall and made away with their phones, laptops and other valuables.

“The students were rendered helpless and hopeless as the school security personnel arrived the scene one hour after they were contacted.

“According to one of the Students Union parliamentarian, Sen James Mboutidem, the University of Uyo community is not safe, as there have been similar cases of robbery attack. This, according to him, was intolerable.

Quoting Mboutidem, Dan Ok said: “I want to categorically state that the University of Uyo, Nigeria is not safe. Over the years, we have been having incidences of armed robbery, but this one is the climax.

“I believe if students do not rise and fight for their rights, this will continue.

“Just some minutes ago, we were reading for our exams tomorrow, when suddenly, some armed men came into the hall and carted away with our phones and laptops which I can’t actually number. The school is not safe”

He lamented that the robbery attacks have become a recurring decimal in the institution, adding that “this is not the first time similar incident has occurred in the University environment. The campus as become unsafe for students as activities of hoodlums, cultists and robbers are now in the increase.”
