– Lagos state government (LSG) has said that abandoned building belonging to the Federal Government have become home to miscreants

– The LSG says some of the abandoned buildings have as much as 100 hoodlums

– The state government say it is soon to dislodge the criminals in most of the building located on the Island part of the state

The Lagos state government has said 60 abandoned buildings belonging to the Federal Government on Lagos Island have become a den of criminals.

Agboola Dabiri, the special adviser to the governor on Central Business District (CBD), stated this on Monday, May 8.

Dabiri made the statement at a press conference in Alausa, Ikeja, adding that the abandoned buildings were being used by criminals to perpetrate nefarious activities.

He said: “Some of the abandoned buildings harboured as many as 100 hoodlums. Some of the buildings are located along Marina, among others.

“Soon, the state government will dislodge the hoodlums and think of what to do about the abandoned buildings.”

He also identified over-population as one of the biggest challenges on the Lagos Island CBD.

“Lagos State is the only thriving state in Nigeria. The crowd on the Island is too much; we are talking about human traffic. Managing human traffic is not easy. When you have a large number of people coming to the Lagos Island CBD, it comes with challenges,” he said.

About 60 abandoned buildings belonging to the Federal Government have become hideout for criminals in Lagos state

The special adviser said all illegal structures and shanties in and around the Idumota pedestrian bridge had been demolished, thus providing opportunity for the people to make use of it after 15 years.

Dabiri also disclosed that the agency had dismissed a number of workers whose actions compromised the image of government.
