1. 83 Nigerians deported from UK arrive Lagos airport
Just few days after the United States under the administration of Trump put a ban on immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries, the United Kingdom has also deported 83 Nigerians.
The deportees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, early morning of Wednesday, February 1.
Among those deported are residents whose documents had expired and prisoners who have almost completed their prison term.
2. Governor Fayose declares supports for 2Baba’s nationwide protests
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has said he will be partaking in the February 5 nationwide protest led by popular musician, Innocent ‘Tuface’ Idibia, against the federal government.
The governor who made his plans known via his twitter handle on Monday, January 30, declared his total support to the organisers of the protest, saying enough is enough.
3. Boko Haram sponsors arrested in Borno state
Two prominent politicians and a traditional ruler affiliated with the Boko Haram group have been arrested during a military raid in Borno state.
The Sun reports that the politicians, who are known in government circle, were arrested early this week by detectives and troops from Operation Lafiya Dole, the counter-insurgency military team.
A source disclosed that one of the arrested alleged collaborators who is also an Islamic spiritualist, had fled the state when he learnt military men were on his trail.
4. Osinbajo presides over FEC meeting in Buhari’s absence
Acting president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo presided over the Federal Executive Council meeting in the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari.
With the president on a 10-day vacation in the UK, the acting president took over the weekly meeting on Wednesday, February 1.
Also at the meeting was Babachir Lawal, the sectary to the government of the federation who was accused of corrupt practices although he was later cleared by the presidency.
5. Acting President Osinbajo swears in five NPC commissioners
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has sworn in five commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC) who were earlier nominated by Muhammadu Buhari.

Senator Andy Uba, representing Anambra South Senatorial zone under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has dumped his party, defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
7. Nigerian Army interrogates soldier accused of assault
The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the soldier who allegedly brutalised a female passenger is under interrogation.
The incident allegedly occurred at a military checkpoint in Port Harcourt on Monday, January 31.

In an early morning tweet, President Donald Trump said he does not care what people call his recent order restricting people from seven Muslim countries from entering the US.
The president made this tweet following the worldwide condemnation that followed his recent order.
Trump in his tweet said: “Everybody is arguing whether or not it is a BAN. Call it what you want, it is about keeping bad people (with bad intentions) out of country!’ he said in a Wednesday morning tweet.”
