The president of the Nigerian Senate Bukola Saraki revealed during plenary on Tuesday, February 28 that the confirmation hearing for the chief justice would be held on Wednesday.
Recall that the Senate confirmed reception of acting president Prof. Yemi Osinbajo’s confirmation letter of acting chief justice of Nigeria Justice Walter Onnoghen to the upper house of legislature last week.
In the letter, Osinbajo requested that the Senate move ahead with screening and consequent confirmation of Onnoghen as the country’s substantive chief justice.
Meanwhile, a recent report by Thisday indicates that President Muhammadu Buhari actually directed acting president Yemi Osinbajo to submit the name of Acting Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen’s name to the Senate for confirmation.
This is contrary to some media reports which claimed Osinbajo acted on his own in taking the decision.
