1. BREAKING: Female Boko Haram fighter killed in confrontation with security forces
The fight against insurgency in Nigeria has yielded another success with the killing of a female member of the once dreaded Boko Haram.
The sect was recently routed out of the Sambisa forest, a vast area bordering Borno state, the most affected with other neighbouring states in the north-east.
2. 16 times the presidency confused Nigerians on Buhari’s health
A report by Yzenithbloga has listed 16 inconsistencies of the presidency as regards the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari.
President Buhari has been in London since January 19, 2017. The presidency had first announced that he was there for a 10-day leave. But he has since extended the leave on medical grounds.
3. FG to boost agriculture with N750 billion – Osinbajo says
The agriculture sector of the Nigerian economy has been boosted as the federal government has approved the sum of N750 billion for it.
This is as the government is reportedly driving towards diversifying the economy.
The Nigerian Tribune reports acting President Yemi Osinbajo as making the revelation during the inauguration of Senior Executive Course (SEC) 39 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru Plateau state.
4. Air Peace suffers burst tyre at Murtala Muhammed International Airport
About 105 passengers reportedly escaped death as a Boeing 737 aircraft belonging to Air Peace suddenly suffered a burst tyre while preparing for take-off at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
The incident happened on Monday, February 27, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) which added that this incident forced the pilot to abort the flight which was on its way to Abuja, the country’s capital.
5. Naira gains strength against pound, euro at parallel market
The value of the Nigerian Naira on Monday, February 27, stayed unchanged against the American Dollar at the parallel market.
Recall that the Naira had gained 40 points to trade at N460 per dollar rate from N500 on Friday, February 24, a rate it has maintained.
However, the local currency has appreciated against the Pound Sterling to trade at N565 from N575 and strengthened against the Euro to trade at N470 from N480.
6. See first ever Nigerian university to offer Aeronautical engineering
The National Universities Commission (NUC), has approved Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering as a course in Kwara State University (KWASU).
KWASU, Vice Chancellor, Prof AbdulRasheed Na’Allah announced the wonderful news in a press release by the university.
7. Court sacks Senator Etim; asks him to return salaries
Senator Bassey Akpan who is representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial district has been sacked by a Federal High Court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.
According to Premium Times, the court delivered its judgement on Monday, February 27 asking Akpan to vacate the Senate and that Bassey Etim was the authentic Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The court insisted that Akpan contested for the PDP governorship ticket in state in 2015 and not for the senatorship and therefore does not deserve to be in the National Assembly.
