Suspected Boko Haram members have killed a police corporal in an ambush on a convoy on a highway in Borno state on Tuesday, January 31.
The Cable reports that the ambush occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Kubwa village along Damboa–Biu highway.

A source who spoke on anonymity grounds said: “They (Boko Haram) ambushed the policemen who were led by the Area Commander of Biu.
“The terrorists succeeded in killing policeman and inflicting injuries on many other including an officer.”
The convoy was said to have been led by the acting Divisional Police Officer of Biu, who was leading a team of nine policemen with some suspect and complainants from Biu to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The Cable reports that a police corporal was shot dead in a fierce battle between the police and the unknown gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram.
It quoted a police source as adding that among the nine police personnel wounded in the battle is the Biu Area Commander who has been taken to Damboa General Hospital.
Meanwhile, two prominent politicians and a traditional ruler affiliated with the Boko Haram group have been arrested during a military raid in Borno state.
The Sun reports that the politicians, who are known in government circle, were arrested early this week by detectives and troops from Operation Lafiya Dole, the counter-insurgency military team.
