The Nigeria Customs Service has set its revenue target N1.1 trillion for the year 2017.
While speaking at a strategic meeting with Customs Area Controllers, the Comptroller General of Customs Hameed Ali said the management of the institution has set its revenue target for N1.1 trillion.
In a statement released by the customs spokesperson Joseph Attah, all area controllers of the service must ensure strict compliance with extant laws to enable it achieve the year’s target.
Attach said the comptroller general of customs also said the area controllers must either “shape in or ship out” as there is no place for complacency in a Service that plays the crucial role of revenue collection and border security.

Ali also declared the present year for training and retraining of staff.
He said: “Ignorance will not be excuse for any officer as there will be refresher courses for officers in batches this year.”
ALi also charges the area controllers to step up supervisory role on their subordinates; ensure tighter border security and block revenue leakages.

He directed immediate punishment for erring officers and promptly reward hard work; and facilitate robust stakeholder engagement for mutual understanding.
Ali’s directives comes after the Nigerian customs handed over two helicopters imported by the Rivers state government to the Nigerian Air Force.

The service last month also seized 661 pump action rifles imported by some undisclosed individuals.
Ali had promised to resharpen the operations of the Nigerian customs despite challenges faced by the service and its personnel.
