Governor Obaseki allegedly sacks worker who testified against him at election petition tribunal

Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki has reportedly ordered the sack of Mr Braimah Gabriel Ohioma, a staff of Michael Imoudu College of Physical Education, Afuze.

Ohioma was allegedly sacked for testifying at the Edo state Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal at Benin City.

In a letter by the management of the state owned post secondary sports management training institution, the witness was relieved of his duties over what was described as “unapprovable unethical misdemeanor”.

Investigations reveal that “unethical misdemeanor” is not listed among the punishable grounds in civil service rules.

The order for the sacked worker who has lived in the staff apartment for over two years has been labelled unlawful by legal practitioners.

A nongovernmental organisation that defends human rights, leadership values and democratic norms in Nigeria, Centre for Patriotic Leadership Initiative, (CPLI), has offered to defend Braimah Ohiomai in court to challenge his wrongful sack and ill treatment.

Meanwhile, Governor Godwin Obaseki’s wife, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, is reportedly struggling to hold down two jobs.

Mrs Obaseki who became the first lady of Edo state in November 2016 has continued to hold down to her job in Bank of Industry, BOI, where she heads the Strategy and Planning unit of the bank’s subsidiary, BOI Investment and Trust Company, BOITC.

Sources said having waited in vain for over three months for her to turn in her request for leave of absence or retirement letter, BOI recently wrote her to either proceeds on leave or retirement.

It was said that the Edo First Lady upon receiving the letter from BOI, the week before last, scampered off like dastards full of terror, and rushed to the bank’s headquarters at Broad Street in Lagos to plead for time to take decision.
