IELTS Nigeria
International English Language Testing System helps to determine the English level and skills of people for whom English is not a native language.
In 2012, two million students passed IELTS and the popularity of this test grows every year. IELTS belongs to three organizations:
1. Cambridge ESOL Exams.
2. British Council.
3. IDP: IELTS Australia.
By the way, there are three versions of this test:
– Academic IELTS (academic version);
– General preparation of IELTS (general version);
– Life skills of IELTS.
Academic IELTS is used to enroll in schools, colleges, and universities in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland. New Zealand, South Africa, United States and other countries whose schools are taught in English.
The availability of the General Training IELTS certificate is mandatory for anyone who wishes to immigrate to Canada, Australia, and New Zealand through the system of professional migration.
IELTS Life Skills is equated to speaking (Speaking) and listening skills (Listening) at A1 or B1 level on the CEFR.
The certificate is required when obtaining a work visa to the UK and for other purposes related to training, living or working in an English – speaking society.
The British Council Nigeria offers IELTS tests in Enugu, Abuja, Benin City, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, and Lagos. The test is conducted on different days throughout the year. The applicants must register online before the test.
IELTS Registration
To register for passing IELTS exam you should go to the britishcouncil.org.ng website. All you need to do is to follow the very easy guide. That’s all!
1. First of all, you have to read a necessary information for applicants. Download a file with the information about the format of the test, the types of questions and, of course, the results of the testing. Remember that IELTS is available for individuals who are 16 and above.
2. The next step is to choose the test version which you require- IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training. You can read the guide and choose what is right for you.

3. The third step is to check IELTS exam dates. There is a very important aspect – the number of places of test sessions is limited. So you must make sure that you have understood your place. One big tip is that you should not wait too long and then register on the last few days before the exam! Register on the site about two months before the test begins. It is possible that before the very beginning of the tests there will be places, but this is not a 100% guaranteed! So it is better to be safe to avoid disappointment. Keep checking on the online registration system on the site to be informed of all news and changes regarding the test dates!
4. The fourth step is to register online on the official website. Then you must prepare your international passport and upload it. The applicants can upload scanned copy of the bio data page of their passport.
Your scanned passport must be in PNG, JPEG or GIF format. After this, pay for your test date. The fee is NGN 68.000. You can pay the fee by transferring money to Zenith Bank, First Bank, and Guaranty Trust Bank accounts.
5. And the last step is to complete your successful registration! Applicants who pay offline must send printed application summary, a copy of international passport, and bank draft through a courier. They can also send these documents in person to the British Council office.
IELTS results
The IELTS results will be available within 13 days of taking the test. You can check them online on the website. In thirteen days your test results will be posted to you. In addition, you can get only one of your personal Test Report Form. So do not lose it!
