How we nabbed 2 fraud syndicates – Rapid Response Squad reveals (photos)

– The Rapid Response Squad has arrested four members of two different fraud syndicates operating in Lagos state

– The suspects were arrested after a victim reported her ordeal at the RSS headquarters

– One of the suspects said he got involved with the fraud gang in order to raise money to feed his family

Some operatives of the Rapid Response Squad have arrested four members of two different fraud syndicates operating in Lagos state.

The Lagos state police command of the RRS said the suspects operating in Ikeja, Maryland, Ojudu-Berger, Agege and Oshodi were arrested on Thursday and Saturday, August 24 and 26 respectively.

The police squad team said: “The first group, comprising of Chinasa Sunday, 44 and Osadebe Aigbe 30, were arrested in Ikeja after several days of being under the surveillance of RRS Undercover team for defrauding a lady of the sum of N85,000.”

A statement released by the RSS said a lady Grace Enitan had made a report at the RRS Headquarters after she fell victim to the gang.

Enitan, the RRS said, had revealed that the syndicate of four men picked her up in a taxi and duped her of N85,000 while she was heading to Ikeja.

The RSS said:“Investigations revealed that Chinasa Sunday and Osadebe Aigbe were involved in the scam while their ring-leader, identified as Martins is on the run.

The victim in their confessional statement to the decoy team of RRS headquarters after their arrest identified the two suspects and their respective roles in the scam.

Chinasa while pleading for leniency explained that he joined the syndicate after losing his job in February, 2017,” RRS said.

The syndicates were also said to have picked the victim in Olowopopo Way, Ikeja, adding that her role was to monitor their victims while the scam lasted.

The RRS also noted that the gang of the second syndicates were arrested on Sunday, August 27, when they failed at an attempt to swindle a food seller of N120,000.

The police said the gang also tried to dispose the food seller simply identified as Rukayat Aderinwale of her jewelries in Oshodi.

It was gathered that Aderinwale was accosted and hypnotized by the syndicate of five members before dispossessing her of a purse which contained N120,000 and her mobile phone.

“They were leading her away to another location when the lady regained her consciousness and called out to RRS officers stationed nearby.

The officer arrested one Sunday Atanda, 56, living in 13, Pero Street, Agege and a 58 year old Fausat Tijani, a pure water seller in Akala, Mushin, while three other members of the syndicate escaped,” the RRS said.

The RRS said Akande named some members of the gang who he operated with.

He revealed that, himself, alongside three others – Kayode, Shina and Lateef – only operated on the road.

Akande said the gang’s aim was to dispose the mother of three of her money, phone and jewel.

He also said he joined the team led by Lateef (the ring leader) to raise money to feed his family.

Further confirming the arrest, the police public relations officer Olarinde Famous-Cole said that the command is reinvigorated to make Lagos inhabitable for criminals.

Famous-Cole, an assistant superintendent of police said investigation on the operations of the syndicates is on-going to help the police arrest other members.
