Ritual items are drama costume; blood is from goat, chicken – Calabar pastor says

ZENITHBLOG.com earlier reported that a Calabar-based pastor was arrested and paraded for allegedly participating in the murder of an 18-month-old baby.

Pastor Tony Obo, founder of the God’s Commandment Ministry (aka Obot Uboho), in Calabar, Cross River state, who was arrested for allegedly murdering a baby, was paraded by the police recently.

According to Vanguard, Obo who claimed that he was only ‘praying for one of his church members’ before he was arrested, told the police that the blood that was found in a bucket inside his church belonged to a goat and chicken he had killed in preparation of his baby’s dedication.

Obo, a former commercial motorcyclist, who was arrested alongside five other suspects, also claimed that the fetish items that were seen in the church were drama costumes.

Speaking to Vanguard, he said:

The red chairs covered in white sheet and the black bag and other occult items were used by the youth of my church for art and drama presentation, while the blood in the red bucket is that of the goat and chicken I killed to celebrate the dedication of my child who was one year last week.

The Cross River state police spokesperson, Irene Ugbo, said Obo was arrested after one of his accomplices confessed that he had sent them to kill a baby and hand over the heart to him. She said:

The heart has been sent to the University of Calabar for forensic examination, while we are investigating where the body of the baby was dumped or buried.”

She also said the police are still conducting investigations to identify the people whose pictures were found at the church on the day it was destroyed by an angry mob.

Meanwhile, the state’s Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) chairman, Dr. Lawrence Ekwok, said Obo was not their member, asking the police to ensure that proper investigations are carried out and that he is prosecuted if he’s found guilty.

Ekwok said “herbalists who parade themselves as pastors to cause havoc in the society. We commend the members of the public for being alert and they should continue to blow whistles on others who have the same obnoxious intentions and attitudes as Anthony Obo.
