NAF undergo special training with British officers to frustrate Boko Haram (photos)

– The Nigerian Air Force continues its 6-week training for selected officers

-The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, visited the officers taking part in the exercise at the Regiment Training Centre (RTC) in Kaduna

– Abubakar noted that the training was part of the capacity building initiative of the NAF towards protecting the base

Nigeria’s Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar on Thursday, July 5, joined the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Regiment personnel undergoing training at the Regiment Training Centre (RTC) in Kaduna state.

ZENITHBLOG.com gathered that the bush exercise, specifically designed by the British Military Assistance Training Team (BMATT), is to build the personnel’s capacity in Cordon and Search.

Abubakar paid a visit in order to witness first hand, the extent of progress on the training and in particular, the exercise, which involved the use of one of the NAF’s helicopters.

He stated that the exercise was part of the capacity building initiative of the NAF towards further ensuring the base protection as a means of protecting the NAF’s air assets.

“Our base in Maiduguri was once attacked, we are taking steps to ensure it never happens again,” he said.

He further stated that the end state was the security of Nigeria and Nigerians, a task which the NAF was devoted to carrying out. He then expressed satisfaction with the performance of the personnel during the exercise.

The head of the BMATT in his remarks, stated that he was impressed with the rate of assimilation of the NAF personnel and added that the capacity of NAF Regiment personnel for base defence had improved tremendously.

The CAS at the end of the bush exercise had lunch with all the trainees of the RTC, which boosted their morale.

While expressing his appreciation to the BMATT for their partnership with the NAF, Abubakar urged all the trainees to remain focused as they were critical to the security of Nigeria and Nigerians.

Officers of the British Military Assistance Training Team (BMATT) are in Nigeria to help train the pioneer officers who will in turn train other officers.

The six-week BMATT training programme for selected NAF personnel is aimed at developing the capacity of the personnel to train others for Force Protection in a complex environment.
