Goodluck Jonathan spoke glowingly of late former minister and permanent representative to the United Nations, Maitama Sule, on Saturday, July 8.

The former president paid a condolence visit to Kano when he went to visit Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje at the Government House, Kano.

According to NAN, Jonathan said Maitama Sule’s influence and contribution to national development went beyond Kano.‎

He said: “He was one of those leaders who shunned ethnicity, promoted national interest above all others and believed in corporate existence of the country.

‎“He was also a man of integrity, a nationalist who played key role in the independence of the country and after independence, his exploits in Nigeria and beyond contributed to making Nigeria a great country.”

Jonathan also commended Gov. Ganduje for renaming the state-owned Northwest University after the former leader.

During this visit, the former president was accompanied by a former Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, former FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs,Aminu Wali, among others.

ZENITHBLOG.com earlier reported that the body of late Dr Maitama Sule, the Dan masanin Kano has been laid to rest.

The Chief Imam of Kano, Prof. Sani Zaharaddeen, conducted the prayer at 6:08pm, with Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and his Deputy, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar and the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II in attendance.
