On Wednesday, May 10, the Federal Executive Council approved the introduction of new International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis otherwise called yellow card for Nigeria.
A ‘Yellow card’ is a proof of vaccination required for going to or from countries that are at a risk of yellow fever.
Professor Isaac Adewole the Minister of Health, said this new yellow card was forgery-proof as it has advanced security features.
There have been several reports of fake yellow cards being issued
He said: “One of the challenges we had in the past with the current yellow card is that it could be issued by anybody and those who did not even receive the vaccination could also, in fact, get a card signed for them.
“With this new card, you cannot fake the yellow card. Using a card reader, we can also document your vaccination status.
“So, we know whether you have been genuinely vaccinated or not and as soon as we start the roll out, we

Meanwhile in 2016, ZENITHBLOG.com reported that Adulraheem Olajide Jimoh, the lawmaker representing Lagos Mainland federal constituency at the House of Representatives, called for the production of a new international certificate of vaccination (yellow card) in the country.
Jimoh lamented that Nigeria was still filled with fake yellow cards issued to unsuspecting travelers.
He also who criticized his colleagues for proposing immunity for principal officers and insisted that fake yellow cards are still being issued to unsuspecting Nigerians by those he called unscrupulous elements around the nation’s airports.
