While the majority of the PDP supported Jonathan’s candidacy in 2011, the consensus presidential candidate of the north was Atiku Abubakar. When Atiku noticed that his aspiration was been jeopardized by Jonathan, he did not give up without a fight.

At the PDP convention, he launched a blistering attack on Jonathan who he described as: “Someone who simply thinks that being a president is an end in itself.”

On page 15 of his book, Adeniyi also said that Atiku had this to say: “If rules can be thrown away by just anyone who feels that he is powerful enough to do so, then it is an invitation to lawlessness and anarchy.”

Atiku also went on to say that delegates would be making a mistake to “entrust the fate of 150 million Nigerians in the hands of someone who has demonstrated that he cannot get any problem right- the economy, out unity, terrorism and even the Niger Delta.”

In conclusion, Atiku said of Jonathan’s candidacy said: “You cannot

entrust the security of the Niger Delta and indeed the entire Gulf of Guinea, so vital to our economy and the world economy, to a man who has demonstrated utter lack of capacity to focus on even the simplest of our problems.

“You cannot entrust the fate of millions of Nigerians in the hands of someone who fumbles at every opportunity.

“Obviously, you can become a president by accident or good fortune. But you do not govern a country by accident or luck.”

Meanwhile, Atiku recently revealed what truly happened in 1984 over the importation of 53 suitcases when he was in charge of customs.

A recent report on ZENITHBLOG.com shows that on Wednesday, May 3 during the inauguration of an education endowment fund in memory of the late former Managing Director of Daily Times, Dr. Onukaba Adinoyi-Ojo, at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, Atiku revealed.

Atiku said the importation of the 53 suitcases was done by a first class northern ruler in 1984 which was during the military administration of Muhammadu Buhari and that the saga almost cost him his job as customs officer in charge of Murtala Muhammed Airport.
