Obasanjo made the assertion at the inaugural lecture of the Olusegun Obasanjo good governance and development research centre with the theme: ‘Leadership, governance and the challenges of development in Nigeria; the way forward.’
No person should go into government with empty mind – Obasanjo

According to the former president, people must have plan and ideas before seeking and taking leadership responsibilities.
His words: “No person should go into government with empty mind hoping to fill the mind up when he is already in power. He should be fired by ideals and only itching to run with it after gaining power.”
He said a programme of work with timeline must be available on the first day of work for a political leader.

In the book, Obasanjo was quoted as saying he did not support Jonathan’s re-election bid in 2015 not only because it was against he had earlier made but because he was incapable of holding on to the presidency for seeing the world through the prism of the Ijaw nation.
The Ijaw chieftain in his reaction said everyone had the right to support whoever they want and that Obasanjo had no right to criticise it.
