– Melaye urged his colleagues at the Senate to see the issue as a test in the democratic process of Nigeria
An angry Senate declared on Wednesday, May 17 that it could halt the appointment of the director-general of the National Lottery Commission because it was done by President Buhari without due process.
The Senate said the appointment of the director-general did not follow the confirmation of lawmakers.

ZENITHBLOG.com learnt that in a point of order raised by the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district, Dino Melaye, he argued that the director-general had started discharging his responsibilities in breach of section 8 (1) of the lottery act.

Dino, who pleaded with his colleagues not to allow such illegality, argued that it could injure the country’s democracy.
“As I speak, the DG has resumed at the commission without passing through the checks of Senate as required by laws.
“Nigerians must be respected,” he submitted.

While noting the enormity of the issue raised by Melaye, Senate President Bukola Saraki promised to ensure that the appointee was stopped.
He said: “The issues raised by Dino are weighty, though it came through a personal explanation. I think the matter may come through a motion so that the gentleman can stop the nonsense he is doing.”
Meanwhile, Melaye has said that he would rather vote for a former governor of Kogi state, Idris Wada, than incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello, incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello, ZENITHBLOG.com reported recently.
According to Melaye, a lawmaker representing Kogi west in the federal legislature, he is moved to say the truth as it is because of the recent assassination attempt on his life.
Melaye said this on Monday, May 15 at the launching of his new book ‘Antidotes for Corruption: The Nigerian Story’.
