Editor’s note: Amaso Jack, a faculty of the Nigerian Institute of journalism Ogba, public speaker and analyst continues his series titled ‘When the streams arrives at the banks’ aimed at exposing the underlying factors that have weighed Nigeria down as a nation. An artist by training, he won the 1999 edition of the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) art award.

Military conquest ia the law of territorial dominion, with a civilization in view!

Remember the words of Will Durant:

“Civilization is a stream with banks. The stream is sometimes filled with blood from people killing, stealing, shouting and doing things historians usually record, while on the banks, unnoticed, people build homes, make love, raise children, sing songs, write poetry…. The story of civilization is what happened on the banks.”

Civilization is a script, a chess board, that starts with the stream and ends with the banks! The 1884-85 Berlin Conference is an example of a civilization script, the script to which we belong!

When the streams arrives at the banks 2......precarious steps in a perilous direction - Jack Amaso

President Buhari has been accused severally of dividing the nation through his actions and actions

(1) Buhari’s avoidance of a national conference and true federalism, even when his his fellow party man Bola Ahmed Tinubu (like others) insist on it. The former Lagos state governor reiterated the call at the 91st Anniversary of Daily Times and Times heroes awards held recently at International Conference Centre, Abuja. A National conference is a threat to Buhari’s covert interest!

(2) The dominion of operational commanders of Nigeria’s security forces….. Army, Airforce, DSS, DMI, Civil Defence and others in the hand of one federating interest.

These are predictable steps in a familiar direction…..An Army of occupation!…An old song from a colonial choir!!

(3) The body language of “Pretense ignorance” of the president to

the war of attrition in the direction of coercion in the Middle belt and the south.

(4) The sequential unveiling of an Islamic agenda, that started with the clandestine membership of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC). The covert manner of membership is the content of suspicion.

These are predictable steps in a familiar direction, that require this questionable fight against corruption as the stream, that diverts our collective attention from the banks!

The president should take immediate steps to federalise the operational commanders of the security forces.

If he refuses to do so, the National Assembly by legislation, should compel him to.

If they fail, the Judiciary should act, but if they all fail to act, and the war of attrition by the herdsmen continues, that ethnic nationalities will arm……why?

“THE SELF-PRESERVATION IS THE FIRST LAW OF NATURE.”
