Auchi Polytechnic graduates decry alleged extortion by school management

– Some graduates of Auchi Polytechnic have decried alleged extortion by the school management

– They alleged that the institution asked them to pay a sum of N10, 000 to obtain Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration number

A 2016/2017 graduates and prospective corps members of the Auchi polytechnic, Auchi, Edo state have called on Nigerians to save them from an alleged extortion by the institution’s management.

In a message sent to ZENITHBLOG.com, a Facebook user, Glory Brown Airaodion Ailemen, said that the institution asked them to pay a sum of N10, 000 to obtain Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration number after they had initially paid N5,500 for the said registration number.

He said: “As alumni of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, we want to use this medium to air our grievance regarding the incessant extortion of the 2016/2017 graduates and prospective corps members of the institution of which I am part of.

“First, we were asked to pay N5, 500 for JAMB registration number which we did, later on, we were asked to pay another N10, 000 for the same JAMB registration number. Out of desperation and the fear of the unknown coupled with our desire to go for service, we paid the N10,000 and they promised to refund the first N5,500, up till the time of this write-up, nobody has got any bank alert on that.

“As if that is not enough, we were again asked to pay N700 before our JAMB registration form can be processed so as to have the JAMB registration number of which majority of us paid before they later stopped the N700 payment but none of those who already paid got theirs back.

“Secondly, our notification of result which is needed for clearance in NYSC camp

was delayed, I can’t ascertain why but, I guess it’s managerial issues. A week to go before the camp opening date, Auchi Polytechnic management decided to release the results for collection with a price tag of N1,500 just for notification of result.

“To some people, the money is not a problem which to some extent might be true but my pain and questions are: why are we paying for notification of result when we paid all our dues? How do they expect a student residing in Kaduna, Kano, Lagos, Enugu and other distant states to start coming to Auchi to collect the said notification of result a week before NYSC camp opening ceremony without prior notice?

“The management of Auchi Polytechnic is owing majority of us 2016/2017 graduates N5, 500 yet, they are asking us to pay N1, 500 to collect notification of result. Why didn’t they subtract the N1, 500 from the N5, 500 and pay us the balance N4, 000 instead of asking us to pay extra. Many of us might even forfeit the balance you know.

“Note: I didn’t write this post to tarnish the school image or otherwise but, I guess I and so many others have endured enough and someone needs to speak up so that the next set of graduates of Auchi Polytechnic won’t experience such appalling extortion.
