Corruption is not caused by greed and poverty, Buhari's aide reveals why Nigerians are corrupt

– Abike Dabiri said corruption is not totally as a result of greed but Nigerians attitude to corrupt people

– Dabiri said corruption is progressing in Nigeria because Nigerians celebrate and worship corrupt people when they return from jail

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Muhammadu Buhari on Diaspora Affairs, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said greed is not the root of corruption in Nigeria but Nigerians attitude towards corruption and corrupt people should largely be blamed for corruption.

Dabiri pointed at the habit of receiving corrupt leaders who went to jail with drum and songs after they finished their terms as the major fire for corruption.

She said: “As long as we see corrupt people go to jail, come out and we celebrate, we worship, we clap for them; corruption will continue to thrive.

“I think we are at a point where we need to say ‘enough is enough! Never again should we go back to the days where we are coming from. Never again should we have anybody steal our commonwealth, live with impunity and get away with it.’

“That is why I want to appeal to you; let us support President Muhammadu Buhari’s fight against corruption. For the first time, we are having a president who is fighting corruption headlong. We need to support him.”

Dabiri who spoke on Wednesday, February 23 at a programme tagged Women Against Corruption (WAC) in Lagos said it is a shame that women are now getting involved in corruption as well and few bad eggs are now ruining the images of Nigerian women.

Dabiri said: “Let’s support the fight against corruption and be determined that we will take Nigeria out of this recession, and this recession is corruption.”

Meanwhile, Rev. Tor Uja, the executive secretary of Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) has said every Nigeria leader needs spiritual rebirth to be able to avoid corruption.

Uja who spoke with pressmen on Monday, February 20, urged the federal government to sponsor political post leaders to Christian pilgrimage once a year to convert corrupt minds.
