The Enugu State Director of Public Health, Dr Okechukwu Ossai, has advised Nigerians to wear warm clothes among other measures to prevent cold and pneumonia following the reappearance of harmattan in the country.
Ossai gave the advice in Enugu on Tuesday following the resurgence of harmattan.
Reports have it that the development had led to increase in catarrh, cough, headache, fever and pneumonia among residents of Enugu.
Ossai, who doubles as the Chief Disease Surveillance Officer in the state’s Ministry of Health, said that people with asthma should avoid prolonged stay outdoors to avoid exposure to dust.

“Everyone should endeavour to be using cream on their skin daily to forestall skin cracks and damage due to the dryness and dust.
“Those with asthma and other environmental allergies should cover themselves properly and ensure that they do not
“While those with eye allergies should protect their eyes with sun-shade or eye glasses to prevent dust entering into the eyes as well as dryness of the eyes,’’ he said.
The expert, however, urged mothers and nursing mothers to immunise their children against pneumonia.
“Any child that develops fever should be well attended to.
“If it persists beyond a day; the child should be taken to the nearest hospital for proper medical examination,’’ he added.
