Headlines from mainstream Nigerian newspapers today, Tuesday August 8, are focused on the gruesome Catholic church massacre at Ozubulu, Anambra state, and the position of the Presidency concerning Buhari’s return, with the recent departure of his wife back to London.
Punch reports that one of the families affected by the gruesome massacre at St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Ozubulu, Anambra State, the Obunadikes, have lamented the loss of three family members.
A member of the family Joel Obunadike, told the paper that he lost his sister-in-law (his brother’s wife), her baby (his niece), and an uncle during the attack by gunmen at the church.
The death toll from the horrid incident has now risen to 12, with 40 injured.

Vanguard reports that the Ozubulu community is still grieving and in shock over Sunday’s incident.
It also reported how three members of the Obunadike family were killed during the massacre, while disclosing that three persons have now been arrested in connection with the attack.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has also disclosed plans to establish the veracity of the drug activities related to the incident, by joining forces with international collaborators and respective countries.

Still on the issue of the Ozubulu church massacre, The Nation reports that the governor of Anambra state Willie Obiano, described the incident as a gang war that spilled to the state from an African country.
In his words: “What happened in Ozubulu yesterday was a tragic dimension of a long battle between two business partners who are from the same town. I have been fully informed that this dangerous conflict has been going on for a while in the country where they both live outside Nigeria before they decided to bring the conflict home.”
Acting president Yemi Osinbajo also reportedly vowed to punish the perpetrators of the attack.

ThisDay reports that the Ozubulu community in Anambra has been engulfed in fear of reprisal attacks since the incident at St. Phillips Catholic church on Sunday August 6.
Despite assurances from the security agencies, the residents of the community fear that there would be retaliation from opposing gangs whose relatives were hit during the attack.
Acting president Yemi Osinbajo however appealed for calm, as he assured the people that the perpetrators of the dastardly act would surely be reined-in by the long arms of the law.

The Guardian is reporting that the presidency is still closely guarding the return date of president Muhammadu Buhari.
This comes amidst reports that the president’s wife Aisha Buhari traveled to London on Sunday August 6, and is expected to return with her husband.
