Years after major battle, ex-President Jonathan visits Emir Muhammadu Sanusi's palace, speaks about late Maitama Sule (photos)

– Former President Goodluck Jonathan landed in Kano to pay condolence to the state and the family of late Maitama Sule

– Jonathan, with the governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, visited the Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi

Former President Goodluck Jonathan stormed Kano on Saturday, July 8, 2017 amid cheers from residents of the state who trooped out to welcome him.

Jonathan, who was in the state to condole with the family of the late Maitama Sule, also visited the palace of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Photographs released by Ikechukwu Eze, showed Jonathan at the emir’s palace with the traditional ruler, who was the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) before he was eased out by the former president for allegedly blowing the whistle on corruption.

Jonathan called the late Sule a nationalist

The former president who visited the home of the late Sule with Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, described the former minister of petroleum as a national figure.

According to Jonathan, Sule promoted the unity of Nigeria and remained a nationalist till his death.

At the home of the late Sule, Jonathan said: “He was one of those leaders who shunned ethnicity, promoted national interest above all others and believed in corporate existence of the country.

“He was also a man of integrity, a nationalist who played key role in the independence of the country and after independence, his exploits in Nigeria and beyond contributed to making Nigeria a great country.”

Commending Governor Ganduje for renaming the state-owned Northwest University after the late ‎Danmasani, Jonathan said: “On behalf of my family and my entire entourage, I offer my condolences to you and the good people of the state.”

ZENITHBLOG.com had reported earlier that Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday, July 6, paid a condolence visit to the family of elder statesman late Maitama Sule.

Osinbajo met with Sule’s wife in Kano, Kano state.

The acting president said he met with the late orator for the first time when he was 15 years old.
