The 35 Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Katsina state is set destroy about 700 weapons recovered from cattle rustlers and other suspected criminals the state.

The destruction of the weapons set to take place at Nacinta Barracks, Katsina, on Monday, July 10, is to commemorate the 2017 United Nations arms destruction day, Sun reports.

The army stated that the arms and ammunition were recovered from cattle rustlers and other criminal elements in the state.

The weapons are to be destroyed in the presence of the state governor Masari and other dignitaries.

The chairman presidential committee on small arms and light Weapons (PRESCOM), Emmanuel Imohe, in a statement sent at the programme stated that there were well over 690 million illicit arms and light weapons in circulation across the world with about eight million of them traceable to the West African sub-region.

The PRESCOM boss said the destruction of small arms was ongoing in selected states across country.

According to Imohe, the disarmament is being implemented in seven states of the country, including Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara in the north west, Cross River, Akwa Ibom states in the south-south.

Meanwhile, a video has emerged of a young Fulani man who was allegedly caught trying to rob a woman in Benin, the Edo state capital.

The video which was shared on Facebook by Olugist.com, showed an angry mob interrogating the young man who claimed he was born in Osun state.

During interrogation, the suspect claimed that he was caught on his first robbery operation.
