The Nation reports that acting president Yemi Osinbajo has reaffirmed his support for the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to the chagrin of his opponents.
Osinbajo’s support comes following the previous rejection of the EFCC boss by the upper legislative chamber.
However, in a speech in Kaduna during the inauguration of the EFCC zonal office, Osinbajo who was represented by governor Nasir El-Rufai, stated that Magu was the man for the job.
In his words: “We have every confidence in Magu to fight corruption to a standstill. He will remain the EFCC chairman as long as I remain the Acting President and as well as Muhammadu Buhari remains the President.”

Vanguard reports that acting president Yemi Osinbajo stated that his support for Ibrahim Magu the EFCC boss, was because Magu remained a nightmare to corrupt persons in the country.
However, the acting president’s speech elicited strong reactions from some prominent Nigerians including two leading Second Republic political actors, Dr. Junaid Mohammed and Chief Ebenezer Babatope, who claimed that Nigeria was falling into a constitutional crisis.
According to the paper, the Senate has drawn back from further engagements on the issue, noting that it had already made its position on the matter clear.

Still on the Magu issue, Punch reports that Prof. Itse Sagay, chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, has faulted the minister of justice Abubakar Malami for stating that Osinbajo’s statement that Magu did not need Senate confirmation was a personal opinion and not that of the body of ministers.
According to the senior advocate, going by the constitution, any minister who openly disagrees with the acting president risks being sacked for insubordination.
Sagay stressed that the constitution clearly stated that the opinion or decision of the president or acting president was final and could not be questioned; and as such, Malami was out of order.

The Guardian reports that about 97 Nigerians residing in Bakassi are feared dead after their town was allegedly attacked by Cameroon Gendermes due to a failure to pay a N100,000 boat levy.
According to the report, those mainly attacked include Nigerians from Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Ondo states.
The 2005 Green Tree Agreement (GTA) by the Nigeria-Cameroon Mixed Commission stipulates that returnees to Bakassi must be properly resettled so they can have a meaningful living.
Hence, the alleged attack is a clear violation of that agreement.

The acting president Yemi Osinbajo stated that the federal government will soon come out with policies to address the matter.
Osinbajo reportedly stated at an event on Thursday July 6, “We are looking at all contributions made by Nigerians across the country. Very soon we will come out with policies to address the call for the restructuring of the country.”

Complete Sports reports that Carl Ikeme, the first-choice goalkeeper of the Super Eagles has been diagnosed with Leukamia.
The development was announced in a statememt by Ikeme’s English Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It stated in part: “It is with great sadness that Wolves can today reveal that Carl Ikeme has been diagnosed with acute leukaemia”.
Leukaemia is described as a group of cancers that usually begin in the bone marrow and result in high numbers of abnormal white blood cells. Symptoms may include bleeding and bruising problems, feeling tired, fever, and an increased risk of infections. These symptoms occur due to a lack of normal blood cells.
